Father's Day History

Father's Day is celebrated worldwide to recognize the contribution that fathers make to their children. It is celebrates fatherhood and male parenting. Although it is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide, many countries including India observe this day on the third Sunday in June. This year it is celebrating its 100th anniversary on June 19.


On June 19, 1910, a Father's Day celebration was held at the YMCA in Spokane, Washington by Sonora Smart Dodd. Her father, the civil war veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children there. She came up with the idea of honoring and celebrating her father while listening to a Mother's Day sermon at church in 1909.

Consequent to the announcement of withdrawal of legal tender status of banknotes of ₹ 500 and ₹1000 denominations from the midnight of November 8, 2016, the Reserve Bank of India made arrangements for exchange and/or deposit of such notes at the counters of the Reserve Bank and commercial banks, Regional Rural banks and Urban Cooperative Banks. Such exchange/deposits effected from November 10, 2016 upto November 27, 2016 amounted to ₹ 8,44,982 crore (exchange amounted to ₹ 33,948 crore and deposits amounted to ₹ 8,11,033 crore) as in RBI's press release. It is also stated that the public have withdrawn, during this period, ₹ 2,16,617 crore from their accounts either over the counter or through ATMs.

Anytime: New messaging app by Amazon

Amazon possibly working on new stand-alone messaging app called Anytime.  Despite there being dozens of different apps in the category, many of them have managed to garner millions of users. It appears as though Amazon wants a piece of the action and is working on their own stand-alone messaging app called Anytime.
