Union Textiles Minister launches PowerTex India

The Government has launched PowerTex India, a comprehensive scheme for powerloom sector development, simultaneously at over 45 locations in the country on 1st April 2017. The comprehensive scheme has the following components:
  1. In-situ Upgradation of Plain Powerlooms
  2. Group Workshed Scheme (GWS)
  3. Yarn Bank Scheme
  4. Common Facility Centre (CFC)
  5. Pradhan Mantri Credit Scheme for Powerloom Weavers
  6. Solar Energy Scheme for Powerlooms
  7. Facilitation, IT, Awareness, Market Development and Publicity for Powerloom Schemes
  8. Tex Venture Capital Fund
  9. Grant-in-Aid and Modernisation & Upgradation of Powerloom Service Centres (PSCs)
Launching the scheme in Bhiwandi, Thane district, Maharashtra, the Union Textiles Minister, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani said that Bhiwandi will be known for resurgence in Powerloom sector. The powerloom sector alone employs over 44 lakh people, the Minister said that the scheme will especially benefit small powerloom weavers.

₹ 8,44,982 crore of amount exchanged/deposited from November 10, 2016 to November 27, 2016

Consequent to the announcement of withdrawal of legal tender status of banknotes of ₹ 500 and ₹1000 denominations from the midnight of November 8, 2016, the Reserve Bank of India made arrangements for exchange and/or deposit of such notes at the counters of the Reserve Bank and commercial banks, Regional Rural banks and Urban Cooperative Banks. Such exchange/deposits effected from November 10, 2016 upto November 27, 2016 amounted to ₹ 8,44,982 crore (exchange amounted to ₹ 33,948 crore and deposits amounted to ₹ 8,11,033 crore) as in RBI's press release. It is also stated that the public have withdrawn, during this period, ₹ 2,16,617 crore from their accounts either over the counter or through ATMs.

Common counselling at State level for admission to medical courses at UG and PG levels

In a landmark decision, following the introduction of single medical entrance exam in the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfarehas now made provision for common counselling at the State level for admissionto medical courses at the under graduate and post graduate levels. As per the amendments made in the relevant regulations of MCI, the designated authority at the State/UT level shall conduct common counselling for all medical education institutions in the State whether established by the Central Government, State Government, University, Deemed University, Trust, Society, Company, Minority Institutions or Corporation.
